Endometriosis can develop at any age from early teens to the menopause. No-one knows exactly what causes it but cells like the one in the lining of the womb are found outside it which can create painful inflammation, adhesions and cysts.
The condition impacts on a womans life in a number of ways such as severe pain, fatigue, depression, problems with a couples sex life, an inability to conceive and difficulty fulfilling work commitments.
